Sentimental Jewelry

I was wearing my mom’s heart necklace the other day and found myself touching it between my fingers often throughout the day. I didn’t realize wearing it would keep my mother’s memory in the forefront of my mind.

I started thinking about the other pieces of jewelry I kept for their memory.

My pearl earrings. These are my everyday earrings and I’ve had them since I was around 19-20 years old. They’re not too small or too big. In fact, I drew a circle for my mom to indicate the size of pearl earring I would like for Christmas. After Christmas, my mother told me she held on to that scrap of paper with the circle on it. She took it with her to different stores to be sure she bought the exact size I wanted.

My friendship bracelet. A year or so after high school graduation, I took my first road trip with friends to Calabasas County to see the Grateful Dead. It was only a few hours away from my hometown, but I could feel my world beginning to get bigger.

My breast cancer awareness bracelet. My ex mother in law gave me a breast cancer awareness bracelet when she found out my best friend of decades was diagnosed. It was so thoughtful of her and I appreciated the sentiment so much. However, whenever I see this bracelet in my jewelry box or wear it, it’s my best friend that I think of.

What’s your sentimental piece of jewelry?
