Mariage Frères tea company originated in France by two brothers in 1854. It’s responsible for bringing tea culture to France and they also wrote the book, “The French Art of Tea”. I wish I had known about it during my last visit to Paris. It would have been a definite “Must Go”. On the upside, it’s another reason on my list why I must go back. Look how perfect it looks.
For now, the closest I can come to sitting in their tea salon is to order their tea online. It arrived today and I’m so excited to try it. I bought their French Breakfast and Earl Grey French Blue. It was a bit pricey, but I don’t care and the canisters are forever. 🙂
They both smell wonderful, but the Earl Grey with it’s blue cornflower leaves especially so. Quality tea has whole leaves like the photo below. When the leaves are put in hot water, they gently unfold to release their flavor. Leaves should also have a lot of room while their steeping. Don’t cramp the leaves! (I’ve been reading.)
The smell, the look, the texture, the taste, I’m in sensory heaven.
